Karnos Chronicles #5 – Streets of Shadow

Zarynn always knew he and his parents were different.  In public they professed to worship the Dark King of Hell and obeyed His Druids, but in secret, they prayed to one of the Gods of Light, until Zarynn’s eighth summer, when a Druid on circuit caught his parents at their forbidden worship and stirred up the men of their clan to murder them. The magic Zarynn had never known he had within him erupted for the first time, striking down the killers and marking him as abomination to the Druids.

Zarynn should have been stoned to death the next day by his own clan.  Instead he was rescued by a necromancer from across the sea who taught at a school for children with magic like him.  Zarynn and Glaraz fled across land, air, and sea,  pursued at every turn by Druids and their minions, man and beast.  At last their battered ship reached the city of Maraport and the Black Skull School.  There, Zarynn faced new challenges of fitting into his new home and surviving new dangers in an environment unlike any he had ever known.

Hassan left the Maraport streets to become a novice at the Black Skull School, but his old gang was not done with him and his loyalties were divided.  In their second year as novices, Hassan, Zarynn and their friends become caught up in Hassan’s unfinished business, while outside forces still seek to control Zarynn and an ancient curse begins to rise around them.
